Hutatma Rajguru Mahavidyalaya, run by Khed Taluka Shikshan Prasarak Mandal is a living monument of Hutatma Shivram Hari Rajguru. This institution was founded to initiate the process of enlightenment through education in the most undeveloped villages of Khed Taluka. The institution aimed at enabling students to avail themselves of the facilities of higher education. Before the establishment of Khed Taluka Shikshan Prasarak Mandal in 1974, there were only primary and secondary schools in the hilly and tribal regions of this Taluka, but there was no institution to fulfil the needs of higher and technical education. Consequently, the students had go to Pune or Manchar.
With the advent of the new movement led by Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and other social reformers who strove for bringing about a social revolution based on the principles of liberty, equality of opportunities, social justice and welfare of the downtrodden through the process of education, a new sense of awareness stirred the socio-political life of Maharashtra. A spirit of renaissance was experienced in cities like Pune. However, the overwhelming majority of people living in the remote parts of Khed Taluka remained away from this spirit. Being aware of this glaring contrast, the founder members of Khed Taluka Shikshan Prasarak Mandal decided to run an institution to promote higher education.
The founder president, Late Shri. Sahebraoji Buttepatil, Adv.Ram Kandge, Shri. Sahebraoji Satkar, Adv.K.G.Apte, Shri.Latifbhai Kazi, Adv.D.M.Katare, Shri.Nanasaheb Sandbhor, Shri.Narayanrao Pawar, Shri.Dnyaneshwar Takalkar, Shri. Wamanrao Thakur, Shri. Laxmanrao Shinde, Shri.Shantilal Shah, Shri. Ashok Shah, and other members of the institution put in ceaseless efforts and established a college and other educational institutions in Khed Taluka.
Perceiving qualitative higher education as the medium of bridging the gap between the rapidly developing towns and the most underdeveloped villages and the hamlets of Khed Taluka, we visualize inculcating small –skill based and knowledge-based educational values to promote vocational competence, intellectual abilities, humanistic values, and social awareness by adopting changing concepts used in contemporary educational systems.

Education is not perceived as an end in itself, but a means and device to achieve these objectives in the journey towards developing the best qualities of head, hand and heart. Our aim is to provide the students with the best possible facilities to develop their communicative competence, vocational skills and confidence to face the rapid changes and challenges of the time."
